Good afternoon, this is Matt Brookshire, principal at Greenback School. Here are your updates for the week of August 21, 2023.
1. The Boy Scouts will hold an informational meeting tomorrow evening here at the school for students in grades K-8. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria beginning at 6:30.
2. For our elementary parents, at this point in the school year we need you to either let your child out on the sidewalk, or walk them to the cafeteria door, but let them go in on their own. This is a hard transition for some, and we understand that. However, for the sake of safety and access to our building, we can only allow students and staff to enter the building.
3. Immunization forms need to be turned in to the school nurse as soon as possible. This is most important for students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 7th grade.
4. Student health forms also need to be turned in to the clinic as soon as possible. The school nurse cannot provide clinic services for a child until the health form has been returned.
5. The state of TN now requires parents and guardians to sign a permission form allowing their child to participate in ANY extracurricular activity at school. This includes athletics, band, clubs, and service organizations. If your child brings home a permission form, please initial beside all activities they have your permission to participate in, and then sign and date at the bottom.
6. Parents/Guardians: If you are parking to walk your child to the door each morning, please be mindful that parking spaces that are numbered are reserved for high school students. Please do not park in numbered spaces.
7. HOSA is currently collecting fees for this school year. Fees are due by the end of this month (Aug. 31). Additionally, HOSA is selling laundry detergent as their annual fundraiser! This fundraiser is used to help pay for competitions throughout the school year.
8. Yearbooks are on sale now! The cost of a yearbook is $70. You can choose to make a down payment of $40, and then pay the balance in the spring.
9. The girls’ soccer team plays at home this Thursday at Harriman. Tuesday at William Blount and Thursday at Austin East. Middle school softball has three games this week. They play at home tonight at 6 PM, Tuesday at 5:30 PM (JV), and Thursday at Madisonville. The football team plays away this Friday against Whitwell. The high school volleyball team plays at home on Thursday, August 24 with the JV starting at 5:30 and varsity at 6:30. Elementary boys and girls basketball try-outs will be this Saturday, August 26, starting at 2 PM.

The 2023 Greenback Cherokees football team kicked off the day by singing the GHS alma mater during morning announcements. The players were joined by several members of the coaching staff
Loudon County Schools will close Aug. 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM due to incoming severe storms. Buses will run.
We have heard from some parents that a supply list available at Target stores includes wireless headphones as a supply list item for third grade. Greenback School's third grade supply list does NOT include wireless headphones. Supply lists for grades K-8 can be found on the Greenback School website. From the school's homepage go to "Menu", then click on "Documents". Supply lists can be found in "Documents".
The annual Helping Hands event at Greenback School kicks off at 9 am this morning! Participants have already started to gather.
Supply lists for Pre-K thru 8th grade have been posted to the new school website. We will also post those to the school's Facebook page. On the Greenback School website click on "Menu" in the upper right-hand corner. Then select "Documents", and then open the "Parents" folder. All supply lists can be found in the "Parents" folder.
GBS Registration Day: We encourage EVERYONE to attend registration day on July 31st. It is important that we get an updated registration form from each family so that we have the most current home address, cell phone numbers, email address, bus information, medical information, etc. Registration will run from 8 am to 3 pm. This includes high school students, as well.
Student Parking Pass Information:
On Monday, July 24th we will begin selling parking passes to our students starting with our first group of seniors at 9:00 am.
All juniors may start purchasing their parking passes on Monday, July 24 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Eligible sophomores may start purchasing passes on Tuesday, July 25 starting at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Congratulations to North Middle (STEM) and Philadelphia (STEAM) for receiving official STEM designation this morning at the TSIN Innovation Summit! It was announced that each new designated school would receive $35,000 and that previously designated schools (including FLMS) would receive an additional $5,000 for STEM use. #loudoncountystem
