WELCOME TO THE NORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL GUIDANCE PAGE!

School counselors are licensed professionals who address the academic, personal/social, and career development needs of ALL students! Mrs. Sara Harris is the 5th and 6th grade school counselor, and Ms. Julie Tilley is the 7th and 8th grade school counselor. We have an open door policy. Please feel free to call or stop by any time!

Our goal is to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that helps and supports our students in any way that we can! We spend most of the day directly with the amazing students of North through large group instruction during Guidance class, individual counseling, and small group counseling.

LARGE GROUP GUIDANCE

Guidance is part of the special area rotation. Mrs. Harris teaches 5th and 6th grade Guidance, and Ms. Tilley teaches 7th and 8th grade Guidance. We hope to support our students in their core academic classes and connect with our students during Guidance. Students earn a grade in Guidance based on the following criteria: participation, listening and following directions, effort, project completion (in-class work, writing assignments, etc.), and respect for self and others. For topics covered in our classes, please visit our teacher pages!

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Ms. Tilley and Mrs. Harris provide individual counseling as needed to students regarding a variety of topics such as goal setting, adjustment, and stress management. Students are referred to the Guidance department by teachers and administration, parents and guardians, or students may ask to speak to the counselor themselves.

SMALL GROUP COUNSELING

Sometimes, students benefit from meeting with the counselor as a small group to work through peer relations, conflict resolution, and stress management. Referrals for small group counseling also come from students, teachers and administration, and parents and guardians.
